These easy-to-make cocktails celebrate the flavors of the season – pumpkin and baking spices.
Using basic ingredients and a few simple steps, you can enjoy both a warm version of this drink – a Pumpkin Bourbon Toddy – and a cold version of this drink – a Pumpkin Bourbon Fizz.
Pumpkin Bourbon Toddy:
Makes 1 drink
- 2 oz bourbon
- 3/4 oz maple syrup
- 3/4 oz lemon juice
- “Baking spices” such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and/or pumpkin pie spice
- 4-5 oz hot water
- Mix all ingredients except for the water together in a shaker and “dry shake” (shake without ice) for 10-12 seconds to combine ingredients.
- Strain into a heat-proof glass or mug.
- Top with 4-5 ounces of hot water.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick as desired.
Pumpkin Bourbon Fizz:
Makes 1 drink
- 2 oz bourbon
- 3/4 oz maple syrup
- 3/4 oz lemon juice
- “Baking spices” such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and/or pumpkin pie spice
- 3-4 oz seltzer water
- Mix all ingredients except for the seltzer water together in a shaker and shake with ice for 10-12 seconds.
- Strain into a tall glass with ice.
- Top with 3-4 ounces of seltzer water.
Substitutions & Enhancements:
- Instead of maple syrup you can also use simple syrup (1 part water and 1 part sugar by weight) or honey syrup (3 parts honey to 1 part water)
- Consider rimming the glass on the Pumpkin Bourbon Fizz with honey and some crushed graham cracker or cinnamon sugar.
- For baking spices, you can use whatever you have in your cupboard. I used 1 cinnamon stick and 4-5 whole cloves; you can be creative here and adjust to taste.
